What GSM & Pile Specifications Are The Most Suitable Terry For My Hotel?

This mainly depends on personal preference and other specs such as the pile and the loop. For a five star hotel the minimum gsm for a face towel should be at least 600gsm with a 16/1 pile. Keep in mind that over 600gsm does not make the towel more luxurious or durable. For instance, 600gsm 16/1 pile is a light towel, yet it is fluffy and extra soft due to the long pile, being single loop also feels less dense in texture and a light fluffy feel. This towel will be ideal for warmer climates. It’s easier to dry after it’s used and also faster to dry when washing. This is not a rule of thumb but it is something to consider. Heavier towels, over 650gsm, are constructed with a shorter pile to prevent them from snagging. That being said, a +650gsm Face Towel usually needs to be short piled such as 20/2, 13/1, or 12/1. The feel is more dense than a 650gsm 16/1 and is also softer. The softness and fluffiness on a short pile towel also depends on the cotton quality & spinning techniques. You shouldn’t have to sacrifice the softness or fluffiness by choosing a heavier and denser towel. In colder climates, both towel types can be used. Light or heavy, our quality towels are all soft, fluffy, sumptuous and durable. They are constructed specifically for the hotel industry. Try our variety of samples. If you give us your sizes, specs, preferences and quantities and we can also produce a custom towel sample.

What is Pile & Pile Length?

Pile is the raised surface of a fabric, which is made of upright loops from the base of the fabric (towel).

“Pile Length” is the length of the yarn strands, which is the distance from base of fabric to the loops on top.

A single loop is basically an upright loop which has a single twist. A single loop towel is more airy, fluffy and yet less dense. For the hotel industry, single loop towels are best when they have a 16/1 pile length and a 600gsm weight to prevent them from snagging.

Higher gsm on a single loop towel is not recommended, unless the pile is shorter .

A double loop is a Spiral Loop, which has a double twist. For the hotel industry, a double twist loop is usually a shorter pile. The texture is more dense and fluffy, but it is less airy. This observation varies depending upon personal preference. We highly recommended that these towels have a minimum of 650gsm for a double loop face towel.

What is Baffle Box Design?

A baffle box design keeps clusters of feathers and down within three-dimensional fabric wall boxes in order to keep them from migrating, spreading out, or bunching. This keeps the down distributed as it was originally intended, and it helps keep your blanket, comforter, or featherbed as fluffy as it was the day it was bought.

What is Thread Count?

Thread count is the quantity of threads woven into a single square inch of area. The number of threads woven from left to right, or weft, and the threads woven up and down, which is known as “warp”. That being said, we can weave more threads into the weft and warp to achieve a higher thread count. Higher thread count is better and makes the fabric softer and more durable. Keep in mind that quality is not only determined by the thread count, it’s also the weaving techniques and how the added threads are picked.
